Western Illinois University Alumnus Jared Reed has taken over as director of WIU’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (formerly called Student Judicial Programs).
Before coming to WIU, Reed served in several administrative positions since 2012 at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, IA, including director of financial aid, director of the Pathways for Academics, Careers and Employment, interim director of the Keokuk campus, facilitator of the Workforce Investment Act Promise Jobs Pre-Employment Training and adult basic education instructor. He previously served as the development services coordinator for the City of West Burlington (IA).
“We’re happy to have Jared back on campus to lead our Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. His experiences in student success will serve our students and our University well,” said John Biernbaum, associate vice president for student success.
Reed has also served as a member of the student affairs team, the joint academic/student affairs committee, the campus assessment, response and evaluation team and Title IX committee at Southeastern Community College. He has been an adjunct instructor for the counselor education and college student personnel department at WIU since 2021.
“Western has a special place in my heart. My education from WIU provided me the foundation to go into the community and start making a difference,” Reed said. “I am very excited to a part of the student success team and to help our students succeed.”
Reed earned his Ph.D. in higher education administration from Iowa State University, a graduate certificate in geographic information services from the University of North Dakota, a master’s degree in geography from WIU and his bachelor’s degree in geography and political science from Central Michigan University.
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities coordinates and facilitates the student conduct process, with an enhanced focus on students’ roles as Leathernecks and their role in the campus community, as well as the rights students have as members of the WIU community.
