Bernard E. Davis, 86, of Galesburg, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on February 25, 1936 in Knoxville, Illinois the son of Raymond and Bessie (Willison) Davis. Bernard married his sweetheart, Julia Maglore, on January 1, 1955 at the First Christian Church in Galesburg. Together they raised their beautiful children and were happily married for 67 years.

Bernard retired from Admiral/Maytag after 30 years, working in paint and refrigeration. He enjoyed summer vacations with his wife and daughters in Wisconsin while fishing and camping and loved hunting and gardening. Bernard enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets with his wife. He had a great sense of humor. Bernard also loved listening to music and watching western movies.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Julia Davis of Galesburg; two daughters, Nancy McGowin of Galesburg and Debbie (Alan) Coombs of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren: Ashley Coombs and Alex Coombs both of Pennsylvania, and Mason McGowin, U.S.M.C., of North Carolina; and a sister, Marilyn Plue of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Richard Davis, Harold Davis, and Raymond Davis Jr.; and three sisters: Colleen Davis (Brown), Helen Layfollette, and Betty Davis.

Cremation will be accorded. Private family graveside services will be held at East Linwood Cemetery Scattering Gardens in Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
