Donna J. Greene, 95, formerly of Abingdon, passed away peacefully at 3:27 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

  She was born October 14, 1926 in Ellisville, Illinois, the daughter of Nelson E. and Hazel (Detrick) Wagner. She married Duane C. “Dutch” Greene on September 7, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Norma Smick, one niece, Paula Smick and one nephew, Jim Greene.

  Donna is survived by one nephew, Jim Smick. Extended family includes nieces and nephews Richard & Janet Greene, Bill & Bonnie Greene, Susan (Greene) Tkocz; and Marilyn Morris. 10 great nieces and nephews; 9 great-great nieces and nephews.

  She lived in Abingdon most of her life graduating from Abingdon High School in 1944. Donna was employed as a telephone operator following high school. She, then, worked at the former Abingdon Bank & Trust and later at the Bank of Galesburg, retiring in 1987. She moved to Galesburg in 1998. Donna enjoyed square dancing in her earlier years when she and Dutch traveled the area participating in many club dances. She had a passion for and collected butterflies and ladybugs. She thoroughly enjoyed game shows and participated in all games and activities. Donna enjoyed life and was continually thinking of others. She always found a way to help someone and gave generously to anyone who needed anything. “For she walked by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

  As she requested, cremation was accorded. A burial of her ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00 am. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

  Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army or Woodridge Supportive Living in Galesburg, IL. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
