Mike Dooley, age 78, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at 4:49 pm on Friday September 2, 2022 at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. Mike was born on October 20, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois and is the son of Dale and Marie Dooley. Mike grew up in Oquawka, Illinois where he attended local schools and graduated from Union High School with the class of 1961. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in Hawaii and in Viet Nam. Mike and Linda enjoyed many trips to Maui, Hawaii and Estes Park, Colorado. He enjoyed pouring concrete and any other projects he could do with his “boys”. After his working years, Mike retired as a Millwright/Carpenter with Local Union 2158. He is a member of the J.W. Clendenin Post 2301 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Oquawka Masonic Lodge 123. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda (Ohler) Dooley, his sister Jerilynn Stevenson of Alexis, Illinois, special family members, Mark and Patte Shallenberger of Monmouth and their three sons, Erik (Joanna) Ferguson, Kyle (Jenna) Ferguson, and Seth (Jaclyn) Shallenberger. There are six “grandchildren” surviving. His brother in law Louis (Jeralyn) Ohler survives and their son Zach, and Mike’s nephew Darren (Jane) Stevenson survives along with several other nieces and nephews. Mike is preceded in his death by his parents, brother Ron,  and brother in law Jim Stevenson. His is also preceded in death by his dear four legged friend “Cash.”. 

A funeral service is planned on Thursday September 8, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Interment with military honors will follow in the Oquawka Cemetery in Oquawka. His family plans a visitation and will receive their friends and family on Thursday from 9:30 am prior to the funeral service. A memorial fund is established for the American Cancer Society.
