Walker, Rech Score Hat-Tricks in Sunday Win

The Monmouth College women’s soccer team finished off the weekend sweep in Wisconsin with a 7-0 win over Mount Mary on Sunday. The Scots are now 4-4 on the season as they prepare to host Simpson College on Wednesday.

The Scots got off to a quick start in Milwaukee as Madison Walker (Vernon Hills, Illinois) scored just 6:12 into the contest. Walker had four goals on Saturday and Elizabeth Schmidt (Waverly, Iowa) picked up the assist.

The game stayed 1-0 until the 34th minute. Lynn Rech (Vacaville, California) took a pass from Natalya Main (Peoria, Illinois) and scored for a 2-0 lead. Six minutes later Rech scored again, this time on an assist from Schmidt. The Scots outshot the Blue Angels 15-2 in the first half with 11 shots on goal as Anna Caster (Greenfield, Indiana) made two saves for the Scots.

The Scots switched goalies in the second half with Lea Selquist (Peru, Illinois) taking over in goal. The score stayed the same until the 73rd minute when Walker scored again, assisted by Main,. Four minutes later, Walker finished off a hat-trick with an unassisted goal. Rech picked up a hat-trick in the 86th minute to give Monmouth a 6-0 lead. Caster scored with 1:35 to play as Rech added another assist.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: The Scots outshot Mount Mary 44-2 with shots on goal at 30-2. Monmouth had all three corners in the game; Walker scored seven goals on the weekend; Rech had four goals and five assists in the two games; The Scots host Simpson College at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
