IL Dept. Of Innovation and Technology Offers Tips for Choosing and Protecting Passwords

Share

The Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology has some suggestions for creating and safeguarding passwords. Do-it cybersecurity expert Jennifer Rominger says a good way to protect your information is to use a password manager app. It starts by creating a general password.

“Then you put the passwords behind that password manager for all your various accounts. So, when you need to log into your Chase account or your Netflix account, you don’t have to rely on remembering it every time, you go to one place into your username and password and find the list of passwords for all your accounts.”

Rominger says passwords should be unique to each account and include a combination of upper- and lower-case letters as well as numbers and symbols. You should not use your name or the names of your kids or pets.
