After .500 finish a year ago, the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team returns four key contributors and features several new faces.
The Chargers, led by 15th-year head coach Ryan Twaddle, posted a 15-15 overall record last season and will begin their 2022-23 campaign at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at home against St. Ambrose JV.
NOTABLE RETURNERS
Connor Barnett (Fulton, Ill./Fulton), 6-5 sophomore guard
- Leading returning scorer averaged 9.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from the field as a freshman last season
- Twaddle: “Connor has grown a bit since last year and uses his size and length really well.”
Griffin Ronnebeck (East Moline, Ill./United Township), 6-1 sophomore guard
- Third-year sophomore shot 43 percent from 3-point range a season ago
- Twaddle: “Griffin is a strong shooter who has really good range and a quick release.”
Myles Estrada (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central), 6-2 sophomore guard
- Averaged 8.7 points per game and shot 36 percent from distance as a freshman
- Twaddle: “Myles is a solid 3-point shooter who is also capable of putting it on the floor and scoring.”
Hunter Caves (Alburnett, Iowa/Alburnett), 6-3 sophomore guard
- Scored 6.5 points per game as a freshman
- Twaddle: “Hunter is a tough-nosed, physical who brings a lot of strength to our lineup.”
KEY NEWCOMERS
Dashawn Wells (Peoria, Ill./Peoria), 6-5 freshman forward
- Twaddle: “Dashawn has the ability to create for others, and he has great ballhandling skills for a player of his size and length.”
Roee Dinnar (Tel Aviv, Israel/Ein Harod), 6-9 freshman forward
- Twaddle: “Roee has a great wingspan and deep range.”
WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS TEAM THIS SEASON?
Twaddle: “We have 11 games in the first 30 days of the season. We expect to see tons of growth from our team during the first month of the season and are very excited.”
THIS WILL BE A SUCCESSFUL SEASON IF …
Twaddle: “It will be a successful season if we grow as basketball players, people and students during the course of the season.”
