GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team put the cherry on top of its Arrowhead Conference championship Tuesday night.

The Chargers, who had already clinched the outright conference title last week, capped a perfect run through the league with a 25-6, 25-16, 25-14 romp over Illinois Valley on Sophomore Night at John Lewis Gym.

Sandburg (23-13, 8-0) won 24 of 25 sets in going unbeaten in its eight conference matches. The Chargers’ only setback was a third-set loss to Highland on Sept. 7 in their conference opener. Tuesday’s victory also gave Sandburg a perfect 6-0 record at home this season.

The Chargers never trailed against Illinois Valley and saw the Eagles force just one tie, at 2-2 in the third.

Sandburg hit a whopping .464 in the opening set, putting down 14 kills against one error on 28 attacks. The Chargers finished with a .294 hitting percentage for the match.

Lauren Erke, one of eight sophomores playing their final home match, racked up a team-best 16 kills and picked up a team-leading 12 digs for the Chargers. Jadyn Swan had 10 kills, and Gracie Rademacker added nine.

Setter Carmyn Baldwin had 36 assists and served three of the Chargers’ 10 aces on the night. Erke, Rademacker and Addison DeSpain each added two.

Second-year players Erke, Swan, Jasmin McDaniel, Natalie Righi and Reagan Eaves were recognized prior to the match for Sophomore Night festivities. The contest was also the final one at home for third-year sophomores Rademacker, Baldwin and Chelsey Catton, who were honored on Sophomore Night last season.
