Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 9th, 2022:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is boys golfers, senior, John Juszczyk and junior, Bryson Hall. Both John and Bryson had fantastic rounds at the class 1A sectional meet at TPC Deere Run in Silvis. Bryson, who shot an 81, lost in a playoff that would’ve sent him to the state finals. John was right behind with an 83, just two strokes from getting into the playoff.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Reece Bertelsen. Reece had a fantastic all-around week last week, starting with a conference win over Abingdon-Avon and ending with a 4th place finish in the United Invitational Tournament. She led the team in kills and blocks in those six matches. Reece showed her versatility, also leading the team in service aces, as well.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Mason Carnes. As the quarterback, Mason is the leader of one of the most high-powered offenses in the state. In a big win over fellow state-ranked Milledgeville, he rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries. Mason took three of those 16 carries into the endzone and threw another touchdown pass just for good measure.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls golfer, Cora Johnson. Cora ended her 2022 season with a 52nd place at the Class 2A sectional meet, carding a score of 91. Earlier this season, she placed 10 at the Western Big Six Conference championship meet, putting her on Western Big Six All-Conference team for the second year in a row.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls cross country runner Sophie Kern. Sophie placed 23rd at the Lincoln Trail Conference championship. That was highest placing Tornado in the race. She covered the 3-mile course in 23:57. Earlier this season, Sophie placed 18th on always tough course of Monmouth Park in the Titan Invitational.
