Safe Turkey Cooking Tips for Your Thanksgiving Meal

Share

Thanksgiving is two days away. Warren County Health Department Administrator Jenna Link offers tips in preparing the turkey for your family and guests:

“It should be thawed really in the refrigerator or you can do it under cold running water and you change that water out every thirty minutes to thaw it or you can thaw it in the microwave, but it should go directly to the cooking process. You can actually cook a frozen turkey, but it will increase your cooking time by 50 percent. As far as cooking that turkey, it really needs to reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit. If you stuff the bird, the stuffing inside also needs to reach 165 degrees.”

When it comes to putting away leftovers, Link advises to begin dividing and storing the food two to four hours after your Thanksgiving meal.
