Swanson wins re-election, other races still too close to call

Dan Swanson will retain his seat in the legislature in Springfield. In the newly drawn 71st district for Illinois Representative, Republican Dan Swanson defeated Democrat Christopher Demink in the General Election. Swanson from Alpha, has been a state representative since 2017. In Warren County, Swanson defeated Demink 3434 votes to 1540, or 69 percent of the vote. Throughout the district as of 1:30 this morning with 61 percent of the Precincts Reporting, Swanson had 61 percent of the vote and declared the winner.

Republican Incumbent Norine Hammond from Macomb was unopposed in the new 94th representative district in Tuesdays election. Hammond has served in Springfield as a representative since 2010.

In the new Illinois 47th legislative district for state senator, Republican Neil Anderson ran unopposed. Anderson has been the 36th District Senator since 2015.

As of 1:30 this morning, the race for State Senator in the new 36th District, between Republican Mike Thoms and Democrat Michael Halpin was still too close to call. With 79% of Precincts Reporting Michael Halpin had 29,950 votes or 56% and Mike Thoms with 23,636 votes or 44%. Thoms received just over 58 percent of the vote in Warren County.

In the race for Illinois US House District 17 with 86% of Precincts Reporting as of 1:30 this morning, the numbers were still too close to declare a winner. Democrat Eric Sorensen was leading with 114,210 votes or 52% and Republican Esther Joy King had 106,693 votes or 48%.

In the U.S. House race in the new 15th District Republican Mary Miller was declared the winner in defeating Democrat Paul Lange with over 71 percent of the vote.


U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood of Peoria ran unopposed for the newly drawn 16th District. He currently represents the 18th District of Illinois. LaHood, a Republican will serve his third full-term in Congress.
