United School District Awaiting Grant Approval for Constructing Early Childhood Classrooms

Share

The United Board of Education is awaiting confirmation of grants to fund facilities projects across the district, says Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt:

“The big grant we are waiting on is we submitted for early childhood classroom construction. Our pre-k programs have grown over the time we have been United. We have four sections of pre-k right now and are serving nearly 80 three and four year olds right now, but what that does is takes up four classrooms in our elementary buildings and we are hurting for space. The timing was good and a grant came out over the summer months that was focused on early childhood construction, so obviously the theory would be to add some preschool classrooms onto each elementary building.”

Superintendent Whitsitt shares the district is also in the process of upgrading their libraries and media centers, placing permanent bleachers at the high school softball and baseball diamonds, and moving the shotput ring. Additionally, the board has passed Section 6 of the district’s policy manual regarding curriculum, which the new manual will be posted by the first of the year.
