Virginia M. Cornell, 94, of Alexis, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, IL. She was born December 19, 1927 in English, Indiana, the daughter of James and Mary (Stroud) Crawford. She graduated from Wellington High School, Iroquois County, Illinois. 

She married Robert Earl Cornell on April 21, 1946 and he survives. 

Virginia worked many jobs throughout her life. Most recently she worked as a federal meat inspector. 

She was a long-time member of the Illinois Order of the Eastern Star. She had served as High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Mothers of WWII and the GerlawChristian Church where she served as a deacon and choir director. 

Surviving Virginia is her husband of 76 years, Robert of Alexis; one son, Richard of Clinton, TN; daughters-in-law, Joanie and Shirley; grandchildren, Crystal (Will) Nulton, Jamey Cornell, Tony (Jennifer) Cornell, Cindy Cornell, Kim (Joey) Nickell, Brian Cornell, Scott Cornell; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tara, Kaylee, Cole, Emily, Sarah Beth, Marshall, Myley, Anthony; great-great-granddaughter, Berkely. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, James and Robert.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Virginia’s life is planned for Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Village Baptist Church, Alexis. Memorials may be made to the Alexis/North Henderson Ambulance or Fire Department. Wise Family Funeral Home, Alexis, is handling the arrangements.
