Gustav “Gus” Andrew Olson, 86, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully, Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.

Gus was born May 26, 1936 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Carl Andrew and Beulah Augusta (Anderson) Olson.  Gus married Joan Winter on June 2, 1957 in Sciota, Illinois.  He served in the US Army from September 21, 1959 until he was honorably discharged on September 20, 1961. 

Gus worked at several service stations in the Sciota/Blandinsville area, then worked for the Lincoln Mercury Dealerships in Macomb & Galesburg for 10 years. He worked for several equipment dealers in the area, prior to owning and operating Gus A. Olson Garage in Abingdon for many years. He also worked for some local farmers and then later retired from Oak Run Golf course.

Gus was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381 in Abingdon and a life member of the AMVETS.  Gus was also an early member of the Argyle Gas Engine Show.  He was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and member of the Galesburg Motorcycle Club.  Gus enjoyed collecting antique farm tractors and farm toys.  He enjoyed visiting with others, his conversations were flamboyant as was his loud laughter.  If Gus was around, you knew it.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. Pastor Darrell Grimm will officiate.  Burial will follow at Prairie City Cemetery, Prairie City, Illinois.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County AMVETS, Galesburg Motorcycle Club, or Hospice Compassus.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
