James R. “Jim” Keeney, 85, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 9:35 pm, Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at his home.

Jim was born February 27, 1937 in St. Cloud, MN, the son of Cecil and Marie (Pozorski) Keeney.  He was raised and educated in St. Cloud, graduating from Tech High School in 1955 and later graduated from DeVry Technical Institute following time in the service.

Jim served with the United States Air Force from 1955-1963, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Jim married Donna Phillips in Little York, IL on November 28, 1959 and she survives.

Jim was a production manager at Achievement Industries in Monmouth for 32 years, retiring in 2002.  He also worked various other jobs throughout the years, hauling grain for farmers, local bowling alley, local Standard station, Gates Manufacturing and Admirals, all in an effort to provide for his family.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monmouth where he served as a Deacon.  He served as President of the local Red Cross Chapter, Chaplin of the Monmouth Eagles Club and was an active volunteer with Special Olympics.  He was a Dallas Cowboys Fan, enjoyed NASCAR, fishing and was an honorary Texas Race Rat.  He liked spending time around his fire pit but most of all he loved being a Dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Keeney; his children, Janet (Bill) Lundeen of Alexis, IL, Lynnette (Kenny) Duffek of Ladonia, TX, Roger (Krissy) Keeney of Alexis, IL, Vicki (Boyce) Hooper of El Paso, TX and David Keeney of Algonquin, IL; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; his brothers, Charlie (Maryann) Keeney of Sauk Rapids, MN and Tom Keeney of Shelby, MN; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patty Zabinski and Shirley Trutwin; his brothers, Bob Keeney, Ron Keeney, Rich Keeney and Mike Keeney; brothers-in-law, Ken Phillips and Steve Phillips.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. A private family service with Military Honors with interment at Little York Cemetery will occur at a later date.
