James Scott Hiett, 59, of Avon, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. Scott was born November 25, 1963, at Saunders Hospital, in Avon, the son of Calvin Kenneth and Barbara June (Gossage) Hiett. He attended Avon Schools, graduating in 1981. 

After high school he obtained a nursing degree from Carl Sandburg College and worked for OSF St. Francis and Methodist hospitals in Peoria for a number of years. He later obtained a degree in accounting from Carl Sandburg and worked for a time at Breslin’s Floor Coverings before illness forced his retirement.

He enjoyed music and was active in all music programs offered at Avon High School including band, chorus and madrigals. 

Scott had an extreme fondness for animals and provided food and water for the neighborhood squirrels and one specific feral cat. He also enjoyed gardening and found pleasure in sharing garden bounty with neighbors. 

Surviving Scott are his mother of Avon; brother, Kenneth Daniel Hiett of Galesburg, IL, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, December 18, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Avon Cemetery. Reverend Jon Prain will be officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Chrons/Ulcerative Colitis programs or a charity of the donor’s choice and left in the care of the funeral home. Wise Family Funeral Home, Avon, is handling the arrangements.
