Margery N. Dowell, 87 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born February 25, 1935 near Sciota in McDonough County, Illinois, the daughter of Irvin and Edith (Hainline) Anderson. She married Cedric E. Dowell on November 14, 1968 in Galesburg and he preceded her in death on March 5, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Margery is survived by two sons, Lyle D. Dowell of Des Plaines and Wayne A. (Debbie) Dowell of Abingdon; one daughter, Carol Marie Dowell of Monmouth; one stepdaughter, Cristy (Bobby) Caruthers of Texas; three step-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois (Dean) Twaddle of Macomb.
Margery graduated as class Valedictorian at Northwestern High School and later attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. She had lived in Galesburg the past five years and prior to that had resided west of Abingdon and later in Abingdon. and She worked in the office for BN Transport and later at BN Railroad. She was of the Baptist faith.
As she requested, cremation will be accorded and burial of her cremains will be in the Knoxville Cemetery at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
