Barbara Ann Reed Hawk, 91, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023.

Barbara was born February 22, 1931 in Kewanee, IL, the seventh child of Ralph and Maude (Blunt) Reed. She was raised in the Osceola and Neponset areas, attending school and graduating from Toulon High School in 1949.

She married Robert Shane in 1950 and later William Hawk in 1965.

Barb was a hard-worker, taking various local jobs at Bowman Shoe Company, DeNovo Pottery, cleaning homes and later as a maintenance and custodial employee at Monmouth College. She retired from the College in 2004 after 14 years of service.

Helping others and carrying on friendly conversation were some of her favorite ways to spend time, along with growing flowers and admiring her garden, walking, dancing, playing piano, decorating and hosting friends. Barb was happiest when she was with her family, enjoying a hot cup of coffee and pie—preferably homemade.

She was a member of Heritage United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her two sons, Donald Shane of Galesburg, IL and Rick (My) Shane of Monmouth; her two daughters, Teresa (Steve) Greenstreet of Monmouth and Stephanie Hawk of Kewanee; four grandchildren, Kristen (Greenstreet) Bosch of Mahomet, IL, Chance Hawk of Olympia, WA, Justin Hawk of Galesburg and Alexandria Godsil of Monmouth; four great-grandchildren plus a special group of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 6, 2023 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Burial will take place at Monmouth Cemetery.
