Rosalie G. Cavanaugh, 83, of Kirkwood, IL, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

Rosalie was born October 22, 1941, in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Gustave and Gertrude (Dunst) Schmit.  She was raised and educated in Bartonville, IL, and later graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Nauvoo, IL, in 1959.

She married James M. Cavanaugh on September 10, 1960, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Peoria, IL, and he survives. They raised 5 children in their home in Kirkwood, where they have resided for 58 years. Her children were her greatest accomplishment.

She was very strong in her Catholic Faith.  Rosalie served as parish secretary for Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth for close to 40 years.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Jim Cavanaugh; her 5 children, Kevin (Michelle) Cavanaugh of Bossier City, LA, Steve (Sandy) Cavanaugh of Kirkwood, IL, Ray Cavanaugh of Oquawka, IL, Karen Cavanaugh of West Point, IA and Diane Kavanaugh of Davenport, IA; 16 grandchildren and many, many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Perrine; brothers, Rev. Arthur Schmit, OSB, and Jerome Schmit.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth.  Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church with a Rosary Service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Church and sent to the funeral home.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
