Carl Sandburg College Office of Diversity and Inclusion Celebrating Black History Month in the Local Community

Share

The Office of Diversity at Carl Sandburg College works with the local community to cultivate appreciation and respect for all human differences. Throughout February, students have celebrated Black History Month with weekly programs in the Galesburg school district, shares Women of Character and first-year student Mia Haneghan:

“I am a speaker for the event and we also have some YMCA Solution students that speak. They read quotes from historical black figures. We also have the GHOST team come in and perform; they are the Galesburg High School Original Step Team. They are very new and it makes a lot of students see us in the community and also see the things that we do. They even learn the history of step dancing and has made a lot of people want to join.”

Students attending Carl Sandburg College have the opportunity to be members of the Black Student Association, the Hispanic Latino Student Association, Men of Distinction, and Women of Character within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
