Governor Proposes Improving Access to Pre-K Education

The Governor laid out his plans for spending in the coming fiscal year and he’s planning upgrades to the state’s education system starting with the state’s youngest students. A proposed program improving access to pre-K education and quality childcare.

“Smart Start is comprised of four elements, pre-k, childcare, early intervention, and home visiting. It also makes our existing programs more equitable, giving moderate income families greater access to quality programs and investing in an early childhood workforce made up largely of women and people of color.”

Pritzker says the “smart start program will cost $250 million a year”.
