Carmakers Hyundai and Kia are expected to launch software upgrades aimed at curbing thefts of their vehicle models that are not equipped with immobilizers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the companies have been developing updates that prevent ignitions from operating without a key after thousands of the cars have been stolen nationwide. The auto builders say they plan to install the software free of charge, rolling it out in phases beginning later this month. Owners are encouraged to contact the customer service department at their car’s manufacturer for additional information.
