Phase 2 of the Harlem Avenue project in Monmouth, which includes the portion from G Street to the bypass, is anticipated to begin late this fall or early next spring, according to City Administrator Lou Leone:
“This is a state grant, and it was a state lead project. Back when this project became available, we were looking at separate costs where we would have to do the engineering from G Street on, but the state allowed us to do it as a change order. With that, the engineering that was going along for Phase 1 was also tied into Phase 2. That actually put the cost of the engineering from Main all the way to 34 onto the original grant project, saving north of $100,000 in engineering costs. That means we can actually divert those funds that we would have spent out of pocket,” informs Leone.
“Since Brandt Construction had already won the bid, we actually saved on mobilization costs because they are already here doing Phase 1. Where we are at with that, Brandt moved off to get another project done. We have been told by Brandt that they will be back either late this fall or early spring,” Leone adds.
