The Monmouth City Council has passed a Memorandum of Agreement with Ameren to develop an EV Master Plan to identify a location for a charging station, according to City Administrator Lou Leone:

“One of the areas we were looking at was the parking lot behind City Hall. If it is a low, like a Tier 3 charger, it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to charge up your vehicle. Then you have 30 to 40 minutes of time to kill, why not take a stroll around the Public Square. The faster chargers they do charge quicker, but you still have some wait time,” informs Leone.

“With the agreement, now that it has been approved, once I send it off to Ameren, they will cut us a check for $50,000. Now, that $50,000 is to go towards implementation of the plan. The grant is already pre-paid for a Master Plan. That $50,000 can go towards the charging stations or even potentially buying an EV low-end squad car for our Community Service Officer,” Leone adds.

Leone states that if the City of Monmouth does not put the $50,000 from Ameren to use, it has to be returned.
