A Note from President McGadney
On February 15, 1837, Knox College was chartered by the Illinois legislature, as a private, independent college.
Founder George Washington Gale set out more than 185 years ago, to found both a college and a town, supporting and sustaining each other. Today, Knox College continues to be a community of individuals from diverse backgrounds challenging each other to explore, understand, and improve ourselves, our society, and our world. The commitment to put learning to use to accomplish both personal and social goals dates back to the founding of the College. There is so much to be proud of, as we celebrate another birthday.
Thank you for the ways you support Knox—our students, faculty, each other, and the broader community. Together we will continue the important work of expanding our historic mission and the tradition of active liberal arts learning.
Happy Founders Day—and Knox Proud Day!
