Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 19, 2023:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys swimmer, Anders Bergren. Anders just missed a podium finish in two events at the United Township Sectional meet. He placed 7th in the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle races. Anders missed a chance to medal by only a quarter of a second in the 50 and a half second in the 100.

United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Abel Wilson. Abel ended his Red Storm career with a fantastic final week. He averaged 23 points in three games. Abel had a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds in a senior night win over a solid Stark County ball club.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Shelby Bowman. Shelby averaged 34 points in two regional games last week, helping guide the Heat to back-to-back regional championship game appearances. She also went over the 1500 career point mark in just two playing years. Also last week, Shelby was voted the prepgirlshoops.com National Player of the Week.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior boys wrestler, Gauge Shipp. For only the third time in Galesburg history, a wrestler was crowned state champion. Gauge went (4-0), while not giving up a single point in any match to win the class 2A 138 pound weight class. He ended the season with a remarkable undefeated overall record of (50-0).

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Andrew Foutch. Defense has always been a Tornado basketball calling card and Andrew took that to heart. In a narrow loss to a solid Knoxville ball club and a win over United in the regional quarterfinals, Andrew had five blocked shots, pulled down 13 defensive rebounds and courageously took a charge call.
