Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 5, 2023:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior girls bowler, Elawna Register. Bowling in a co-op with West Central this season, Elawna placed 16th at the Dixon Regional Tournament at Plum Hollow Family Center. She rolled a 6-game total of 1033 for an average of 172 pins per game. Elawna will move on to the Decatur Eisenhower Sectional at Landmark Lanes in Peoria.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior wrestlers Jake McElwee and Carter Rothzen and sophomores Mason Giddings and Sam Flores. All four wrestlers will move on to the sectional tournament for their performances at the regional meet. McElwee, who took 2nd will wrestle at sectionals. Flores, Giddings and Rothzen all placed 4th at regionals and will be alternates at sectionals.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Bryce Bigger. Coming off an injury that saw him miss significant time this season, Bryce contributed to a Lincoln Trail Conference tournament win against Galva. He scored 12 points in the 41 point victory. Bryce put a stamp on his return with 22 points the very next game against Wethersfield.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior boys swimmer, Luke Thomas. Luke picked up a plethora of medals at the Western Big Six Conference championship meet. He claimed a 1st place medal in the 100 yard butterfly and showed his versatility with a 2nd place medal in the 100 yard breaststroke. Luke was also a part of two relay teams that claimed conference championships, as well.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Carter Redfern. Carter came up big in a Lincoln Trail Conference tournament win over United. He totaled 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out 2 assists in the contest. Carter has been solid during a second half of the season surge by the Tornadoes, averaging the second most assists for the Tornadoes.
