Judith Ann Young, 80, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at home Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.

Judy was born August 11, 1942 in Galesburg, the daughter of Ralph Harms and Margaret Lilly Louise (Shaffman) Young. After graduating from Galesburg High School Judy attended and graduated from Carl Sandburg College with a degree in accounting. She went on to work as the fiscal officer at Hope Head Start in Galesburg for 15 years, then working as the bookkeeper at Howard Johnson’s and later the Days Inn in Galesburg before retiring in 2000.

Judy is survived by her life partner of 43 years Shirley Bell of Galesburg; two daughters, Sharron (the late Victor) Justus of Galesburg and Cathleen (Randy) Brush of Galesburg; seven grandchildren, D’Artaignan R. (Marcie) LeDuke, Robert G. Zell, Roger W. Brush, Christian M. (Megan Cozaihr) Justus, Keith A. (Macey Turner) Brush, Kamille L. (Daniel Gonzalez) Justus, and Kevin D. Brush; and three great grandchildren. Along with her parents, Judy is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie Ann Hathaway; two sisters, Mary Appel and Dian Warren; and one nephew, Scott Stevens.

In her free time Judy enjoyed working her mind from reading, completing jigsaw puzzles, and different kinds of puzzle books. Judy loved to dance and had the artistic ability to enjoy drawing. She always did things “her way,” and was proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Cremation will be accorded. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to OSF Hospice in memory of Judy. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
