Mexico Continues to be Strongest Export Market for Pork Industry

Share

Illinois Pork Producers Association Executive Director Jennifer Tirey reports that while under the Biden Administration not a lot of trade agreements have been seen; new markets are beginning to open:

“We are still seeing that our tariff levels are higher in some areas, but obviously our strongest export market, one of them being Mexico, we have a really great relationship with Mexico, and are seeing a lot of exports continue to go that direction. I think that as always we would love to see the opportunity to expand that export market so that we can find places to put our product.”

Tirey states that when compared to hog prices in Europe, the United States is much lower, however when our product is exported to other countries, a higher tariff must be paid, causing the United States hog prices to not be as competitive.
