One of the oldest sewer lines in Monmouth, which has been on the capital plan for a number of years, has just been bumped to highest priority as a sewer collapsed in the 500 block of East Clinton, explains Public Works Director Andy Jackson:
“It is a major interceptor sewer which means it carries a lot of flow. We are going to have to reroute that sewer pipe. When they put it in it ran in an old creek bed area, that is how they did things years ago. Basically, it is going under emergency repair order to get this work completed. I have contractors lined up and it is going to be quite expensive to do it, but again it has been on the capital plan. It has slowly been moving up the priority list, but it all of a sudden took a leap to the top. That area between North 3rd, North 5th, and East Clinton will be under construction.”
Monmouth City Council has also approved the purchase of a new leaf vacuum machine for $125,000.
