Catherine Marie Ross, 87, of Galesburg, died at 5:01 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
Catherine was born December 12, 1935, in Avon, the daughter of Joseph Peter and Maude Alberta (Hagan) Pecharich. She graduated from Corpus Christi Catholic High School in 1953. On June 27, 1953, Catherine and John L. Ross were united in marriage in Galesburg. Their 65-year marriage brought seven children. John preceded her in death on March 14, 2019.
Catherine is survived by three sons, Steve (Glenda) Ross of Anamosa, Iowa, Michael (Jonetta) Ross of Surprise, Arizona, Richard (Stephanie) Ross of Ozark, Missouri; four daughters, Cathy (Randy) Bainter of Macomb, Merilee (Carl) Cain of Mitchell, South Dakota, Susan (Bill) Kampbell of Rockvale, Tennessee, and Nancy Ross of Galesburg; fifteen grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. Along with her husband and parents, Catherine was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph E. Pecharich.
Catherine worked for several years at Kroger’s Grocery and JC Penney. She was a real estate agent for over 20 years and retired in 2004. A devout Catholic, Catherine was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She made cakes as a business out of her home for special occasions like weddings and birthdays for many years. She also enjoyed quilting. She belonged to different quilting clubs, enjoyed crossstitch and embroidery.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday May 2, 2023, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory in Galesburg. Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
