Marian L. Warden Burton, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away July 3, 2025 at 7:30 am at Arc Rehabilitation Center in Chillocothe, Illinois. Marian was born on January 6, 1938 in Monmouth, and is the daughter of Walter Lee Edward and Evelyn Ford Bailey. She was raised in Monmouth where she attended Harding Elementary and later Central Junior High and graduated from Monmouth High School in the class of 1956. She then attended the Carl Sandburg School of Cosmetology where she attained her degree and later went on to receive certification as a professor. Marian was first married to Leonard D. Warden. He preceded her in 2013. She later married Paul W. Burton on October 4, 1992 in Calvary Baptist Church of Monmouth. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2022.

Marian began work as line worker at Wilson Foods of Monmouth where she worked from 1966 to 1977. At the same time she operated Marian’s Den of Styles in Monmouth, for a number of years. She also drove a taxi for Bailey Cab Company where she earned her Chauffer’s license and transported personnel for Burlington Northern Sante Fe railroad for a number of years. Later she became the manager of Bailey Yellow Cab in Monmouth fulfilling many appointments. Marian has been a long time member and a very active leader and Sunday school teacher in her church Calvary Baptist Church of Monmouth. She has been the treasure of the church and has been director of Vacation Bible School and a trustee of the church. She also has been most active with fund raising for the church and this community. Her whole life has been her family and the church and she is known and famous for her cooking, baking pies for all, and organizing the church dinners. She has been a seamstress making many items including her elephants, and sewing. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Monmouth. Surviving her are three daughters, Cleota Warden of Morton, Illinois, Gwendolyn Thompson and David of Cherokee, Iowa, Shabeda Pennington and Rodney of Towanda, Illinois; four sons, George Warden of Monmouth, Illinois, Leonard Warden of Hawaii, Leslie Warden and Krista in Naperville, Illinois, and Wylie Miller in Galesburg, Illinois. Two step daughters survive, Patricia Warden of Peoria, Illinois and Janice Warden of Decatur, Illinois. .There are numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and step grandchildren and great grandchildren surviving. Her brother, Charlie Bailey survives in East Moline, Illinois and her sister, Faith Williams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is preceded in her death by her parents, her husbands, her sisters Adeline, Gertrude, and Barbara,  and her brothers Richard Bailey and Jessie Rollins.. 

A funeral service for Marian Warden Burton is planned on Saturday July 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church of Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans visitation at the church prior to her service and will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will be in the Monmouth City Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois.
