Daniel Knowles, the Midwest correspondent for The Economist, delivered this year’s Midwest Matters lecture Tuesday, April 18, at Monmouth College. Titled “Impressions of a New Midwesterner,” Knowles talked about his first 18 months reporting from Chicago for The Economist, which has a worldwide readership of more than 1.3 million. Knowles is also the author of the recently published book, “Carmageddon: How Cars Make Life Worse and What to Do About It.” In the book, Knowles chronicles the rise of the automobile, its effect on society and what cities might do to reclaim space that has been taken over by cars. Knowles discusses his book in this interview. Knowles also spoke on Wednesday morning to Monmouth political science lecturer Robin Johnson’s political science class.
