Jeanne Marie (Saunders) Seitz, 78, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023. She was born January 13, 1945, the daughter of William and Mildred (Zimmerman) Saunders of Wauseon, Ohio.

Jeanne attended Bowling Green State University, majoring in elementary education. She met David Seitz, a pastor at South Side Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) during a week when they were both counselors at Camp Christian. The couple was married in 1969 and moved throughout the Midwest as David served various congregations in Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. Jeanne taught elementary school early in her career and then later worked as a case manager at Fulton County Rehabilitation Center (Canton, IL) and Warren Achievement Center (Monmouth, IL). Her passions as an educator and advocate for those she served continued throughout her career. Jeanne was also the number one cheerleader for her two children, attending all their extra-curricular events and earning the name “the uniform lady” by hundreds of students in the Canton High School marching band for her skill at fitting and altering uniforms.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, David. She is survived by her two children Anne (Jeff) Tokazewski and John (Renee) Seitz; her grandchildren, Paige and Sean Tokazewski and Devon Sloan; her brother Jim (Annie) Saunders; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life visitation will be held at a later date at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Those wishing to remember Jeanne may make donations to Special Olympics. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
