A solar energy presentation was given by QFB Energy and Ideal Environmental at the latest Monmouth-Roseville Board of Education meeting. Superintendent Ed Fletcher shares this was just the first reading and discussion by the board on current incentives for school districts and savings on the possibility of installing solar panels for the school district:
“We have worked with QFB Energy for years on the supply side of natural gas and electricity, but now we are moving into this side of it, the production side of energy consumption. It was an interesting conversation. You can do it in a couple of different ways; you can pay for the system yourself, which is not feasible, you can do a lease to own, or you can do what they call a price purchase agreement where there are investors who invest in the system itself, but those people then would get the incentives from the federal government and state government. There are pros and cons to each, but regardless, there is substantial savings that could be had with the systems.”
Superintendent informs if the district potentially did a lease to purchase of solar panels, there is a projection of over $2 million in savings over a 26 year period. No action was taken by the Board; more will be discussed at the May meeting.
