Monmouth-Roseville Titans Varsity defeated Morrison Mustangs 44-0 on Monday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. The Titans scored 16 runs in the first inning and 28 runs in the second inning. According to the IHSA.org website, the 44 runs by the Titans are tied for the 5th most in high school baseball history.
The Titans were boosted by Zach Almaguer who went 5-for-5 at the plate. Among Almaguer’s five hits was a grand slam home run in the second inning.
Monmouth-Roseville Titans Varsity notched 28 runs in the second inning. Almaguer, Justin Brooks, Jones, Bryson Hall, Almaguer, and Silas Braun all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
A double by Allen Rumfelt in the third inning was a positive for Morrison Mustangs.
C.J. Johnson took the win for Monmouth-Roseville Titans Varsity. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out four and walking one. Nico Avendano and Jones entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Monmouth-Roseville Titans Varsity smacked two home runs on the day. Brooks had a dinger in the second inning. Almaguer went yard in the second inning.
Monmouth-Roseville Titans Varsity collected 31 hits. Tyler Finnicum, Almaguer, Brooks, Braun, Jones, Ayden Holcomb, and Hall each managed multiple hits for Monmouth-Roseville Titans Varsity. Finnicum went 6-for-6 at the plate to lead Monmouth-Roseville Titans Varsity in hits.
The Titans improve to 9-3-1 on the season and 4-1 in the TRAC West Division. The next game for Monmouth-Roseville is Tuesday at home against Ridgewood in a non-conference match up.
