He was born April 28, 1936 in Economy, Missouri, the son of Floyd Earl and Daisy Mae (Dennis) Main. Garvin was reared and educated in Atlanta, Missouri. After he turned 18, he joined the United States Air Force in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. Garvin worked as a machinist at OMC Gale Products for 22 years, until they closed. He later worked for Naeir for a few years before retiring in 2000. Garvin married Lillian E. Larkins on November 13, 1965 in Galesburg.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Lillian Main of Knoxville; three sons: Rob (Denise) Main of East Galesburg, Dick (Stephanie) Main of Knoxville, and Garvin (Vanessa) Main, II of Peosta, Iowa; five grandsons: Dustin McCue, Bryan Main, Derrick Main, Bradley Main, and Michael Main; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Garvin had a passion for cars; whether it was his diecast model cars, antique cars, or attending car shows. He enjoyed mowing his lawn. Most of all, Garvin loved watching his grandkids play sports and spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, a great father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed.
