Georgia A. Davis, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Georgia was born January 19, 1940, in Abingdon, Illinois the daughter of George E. and Gladys E. (Todd) Landon. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1958. Georgia went on to have a 30-year career in food service at Knox College in Galesburg, retiring on November 30, 2005.

Georgia is survived by her five children, sons, Steven (Julie) Davis of Galesburg, Mark (Mary) Davis of Berwick, Illinois, and Michael (Susan) Davis of East Moline, Illinois; and two daughters, Christine (Les) O’Dell of Carbondale, Illinois and Martha (Fred) Kearns of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Georgia is also survived by her beloved fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Gilbert of Abingdon, Illinois. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; ten brothers; four sisters; and the father of her children, Alvin.

Never getting a driver’s license, Georgia used the city bus her mode of transportation and continued riding just to enjoy town and talk to other folks riding the bus. She loved her years at Knox and enjoyed the students, especially the international students, becoming a second mom to many of them. Georgia was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Whitey Ford, the Buffalo Bills, and enjoyed watching golf on television even though she had never played a round. She lived for many years at Galesburg Towers and enjoyed the many friends she made while living there. Her generous heart and giving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023 at the funeral home with her son-in-law, Les O’Dell officiating. Burial will follow at Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made in Georgia’s memory to Blessings in A Backpack or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
