The 200 blocks of North and South Main Street in Monmouth will now be a part of the Downtown Monmouth Beautification project, as the City of Monmouth has secured a $1.5 million grant through the Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets Capital Program, informs Mayor Rod Davies:

“We received word that a grant we had worked on a couple of years ago, the $1.5 million continuation of our Downtown Revitalization. That will allow us to continue this project and tie it all together through the 200 blocks of North and South Main Streets. Our local match will be at least a half million dollars, so we will have $2 million available for this project. It is really exciting that we can continue the diagonal parking, add more parking in those areas for or merchants, bring things down to one lane, and continue with sidewalk and enhanced ADA accessibility and pedestrian crossings.”

Mayor Davies anticipates this part of the Downtown project will go to bid this winter, with construction beginning in the spring of 2026.
