James “Mike” Brown

James “Mike” Brown, 75, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 11:15 p.m., Friday, May 26, 2023 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL. 

He was born on June 7, 1947 in Galesburg, IL, the son of James R. and Judith M. (Awalt) Brown.  Mike was raised and educated in Hannibal, MO.  He graduated from Hannibal High School in 1965.  Mike was drafted into the United States Army from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War.  He served as a MP and received the National Defense Service Medal.  Mike later graduated from Quincy College in 1974 with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

He married Lois Marie Bowen on December 20, 1967 in Hannibal, MO; she survives. 

Mike worked as a corporate accountant for several years and later worked for the State of Illinois as an auditor until his retirement in 1992.  He enjoyed golfing and playing on his computer. 

Surviving Mike is his wife, Lois M. Brown of Monmouth, IL; his children, Michael Brown of Mt. Sterling, IL, Teressa (Thomas) Hultz of Monmouth, IL; his grandchildren, Holly Huber Brown of North Henderson, IL, Paul (Danielle Skivers) Hultz of Monmouth, IL; and his great grandchildren, Oakley Forshee, Owen Forshee, Harley Forshee, Noah Hultz, Presley Hultz, Jairus Hultz, Alyssa (Gage Blevins) Hultz.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his Parents; one sister, Jody Bogue; and one granddaughter, Andreana Hultz. Cremation rites have been accorded.  No visitation or services are planned at this time.  Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Camp Point, IL at a later date.  Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
