With school out and the official start of summer around the corner, more people will be out and about on the roadways. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer reminds motorists to be on the lookout and drive defensively:
“With the start of summer, obviously there are a lot of things going on. A lot of people are out and about, a lot of kids, you know they are out of school, riding bikes and walking in the streets, you just have to be on the lookout for them. Also, with the good weather people are riding motorcycles, to include golf carts too. People driving just need to keep an eye out for all of that. It doesn’t meant that everybody else is paying attention when they are driving down the street, but you definitely can. Defensive driving is the best type of driving you can be doing, making sure you are safe and everybody else you are sharing the street with is safe.”
During the month of April, Chief Switzer informs the Monmouth Police Department made 63 arrests, issued 106 ordinance violations, responded to 16 accidents, and handled a total of 1,131 calls.
