The 4th of July brings a time for fun, but also a time for safety. Fireworks in the state of Illinois are illegal. If you plan on taking part in 4th of July festivities, always remember to keep a safe distance, light one at a time, and never relight duds.
Monmouth Fire Department Assistant Chief Craig Cozadd shares more.

“We just caution people, obviously medically, to be safe with fireworks because they are extremely dangerous, missing fingers and explosions, those kind of things, burns obviously. But also the fire hazard that they present because we are shooting projectiles into the air. For instance, they can come down wherever. We’ve had several fires that have started in gutters and things like that, where they’re filled with leaves and debris they haven’t cleaned out. Start there and spread to the building itself, so just keep that in mind if you’re doing that.”

Cozadd also warns that even small items like sparklers can cause injuries or start a fire. Have an amazing, but safe, 4th of July.
