Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 30, 2023:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior track and field athlete, Mariah Reading. Mariah is new to the 300 meter hurdles but has taken the challenge head-on and enjoyed success. She won the Mercer County Invitational title in the event. With the regular season coming to a close, Mariah is looking to make a run, and jump, in the postseason.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore track and field athlete, Emma Austin. The Red Storm girls track and field squad has brought home quite a few team trophies so far this season and many of the individual points has come from Emma. She had three finishes in the top 4 at the Mercer County Invite and then had three, 2nd place finishes at the United Invite. Earlier this season, Emma had three, top-3 places at the highly competitive Rockridge Invite.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior softball player, Shelby Bowman. The red-hot Heat won four games last week and Shelby’s bat was the hottest on the club. In those four games, she was 8-for-13, with 8 rbis, 7 runs scored and four stolen bases. All of those were high marks on the team. Shelby also blasted her first two home runs of the season.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is freshman track and field athlete, Lily Furrow. Lily has been lights-out in the 300 meter hurdle events this season. She won the event at the highly competitive Sterling Invitational by a whopping second and a half over the runnerup. Lily also was a part of two relay teams that placed second overall.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Kellen Hook. Kellen was a factor in three wins last week for the Tornadoes. He went 5-16, with five rbis and a double at the plate. Kellen also got a pitching win, going five shutout innings with six strikeouts in a Lincoln Trail Conference West Division victory over Knoxville.
