Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 7, 2023:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, CJ Johnson. CJ shut down the powerful offense of the Orion Chargers, throwing 7 shutout innings. He only gave up one hit and garnered 9 strikeouts. CJ also continued his great year at the plate, banging out a pair of doubles for the week.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, AJ Jenks. AJ has been setting the table out of the leadoff spot for the Red Storm down the stretch of the regular season. In four games last week, he was 6-for-11 and scored an amazing 10 runs. AJ used his speed to get into scoring position for the middle of the batting order with 8 stolen bases and used his power to hit his first home run of the season.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Noah Lenahan. Noah had a strong week at the plate for the Heat. He went 4-for-10 and reached base in 8 of his 14 total plate appearances. Noah also showed some power, blasting his first home run of the season and driving in three runs.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Charlie Lardi. Charlie tore the cover off the baseball last week and also earned himself a pitching win, as well. In three games, he went 6-for-14, scoring five runs and hitting a triple. Charlie also tossed 7 innings of 3-hit baseball with 13 strikeouts in a WB6 victory at Sterling.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls track and field athlete, Brook Pieper. Brook had a fantastic Lincoln Trail Conference championship meet in Princeville. She placed 3rd in the shot put event with a throw of just over 31.5 feet. Brook also took home a 3rd place medal in the discus event with a toss of 105.5 feet.
