Fighting Scots Hursey Named MWC Field Performer of the Week

For the second week in a row and the fourth time this season, a Monmouth College track and field athlete was named Midwest Conferece Women’s Field Performer of the Week. This week’s award was earned by freshman Miranda Hursey (Hanna City, Illinois) who set a new career-high to win the pole vault at Saturday’s Fighting Scot Invitational

Hursey moved into ninth on Monmouth’s all-time pole vault list when she cleared 3.14m (10′ 3.5″) to win the pole vault The performance is the best pole vault in the Midwest Conference so far this season with the next best effort coming by three competitors (including Monmouth teammate Linsey Turner) at 3.05m. Saturday’s win was the second of the season for Hursey as she also won the pole vault at hte IC True Blue Invite in April at 3.10m. She has cleared 3.05 in three of the last five meets heading into this weekend’s Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships.

Hursey also ran in the women’s 4x100m relay on Saturday. The relay team finished second at the Fighting Scot Invite with a season-best time of 50.25 seconds.

This is Monmouth’s fourth win in seven weeks for the Women’s Field Performer of the Week in the MWC. Maddie Boley (Beecher, Illinois) won the award on April 4, April 11 and April 25.

Monmouth will compete at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend, starting Firday at 9 a.m, in Grinnell, Iowa. The women are the defending outdoor champions and the men finished second outdoor last year in Beloit.
