Betty A. Cooley, age 78 of Knoxville, Illinois died at 9:05 am on Monday, May 29, 2023 at her home in Knoxville, Illinois.

She was born on December 12, 1944 in Glendale, West Virginia, the daughter of Earl and L. Alwanda (Clark) Cooley. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1962, then attended the former Browns Business College in Galesburg, Illinois.

Surviving are her beloved, yet spoiled poodle, Earl, whom she rescued from WIAR; two sisters: Vicki Weatherd of Poulsbo, Washington and Janet (Jess) Godsil of Galesburg, Illinois; nieces and nephews: Tami (Mike) Graves of San Jose, California, Martin Shreeves of Los Angeles, California, Laura (Brad) Simpson of Poulsbo, Washington, Lacy (Matt) Redmon of Bremerton, Washington, Pam Godsil of Knoxville, Illinois, Bea Doran of Galesburg, Illinois and Robert Godsil of Galesburg, Illinois; several great nieces and nephews and two great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew, Matthew and niece Danielle.

She worked for the former O.T. Johnson’s and retired from Carhartt of Galesburg, Illinois. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Knoxville, Illinois. She enjoyed watching TV, especially the classic westerns, shopping and collecting jewelry, traveling, trivia night with her family and friend, and listening to music. She loved being with family and attending family events at school. She had a great sense of humor. Special thanks to Lisa Purl and Marge Lewis.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice or to Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
