Donald L. Peterson, age 93, Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, died on June 19, 2025, in Las Vegas.

He was born on May 2, 1932, in Galesburg, the son of Martin and Hazel Peterson. He graduated from Galesburg High School. He married Donna Tadie on April 12, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2018.

Surviving is one son, John (Lindy) Peterson and one daughter, Sarah (Joe) Scott; five grandchildren, Lori (Aaron) Ellison, Leanne Simpson, Mike (Beth) Peterson, Hayley (Michael) Knuth, and Abby Peterson; and nine great grandchildren, Austyn, Jadyn and Braelyn Ellison, Khloe and Sawyer Simpson, Bria and Carina Peterson, and Avery and Connor Knuth. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his son Fred in 2009, and one brother and one sister.

Don proudly served in the US Navy from August 15, 1951-August 15, 1959. He was general manager for McCabe’s Scrap and Iron for 45 years. He enjoyed playing tennis and cards. Don was a car enthusiast who loved restoring old Corvettes and Thunderbirds. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Galesburg, member and past president of the Jaycees, and was active with the Elks Club in the 1960’s.

Cremation was accorded. His remains will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in a private ceremony officiated by Pastor Jordan Knight and Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy and the Knox County Honor Guard. All are invited to a celebration of life on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Taco Hideout. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
