Over the last few weeks, dry, drought conditions have been growing in the western Illinois region, growing worries for area farmers. During the Halfway to Freezing for Food event last week, Roseville farmer Mike Moore shared the conditions he has been seeing in his field.
“Some fields still have some moisture but it’s a ways down. What we have noticed, is no-till or minimal-till fields- the corn hasn’t curled yet but anything that was conventional tilled is starting to curl a little bit, so we could definitely use a drink right now,” said Moore. “The beans look pretty good. Things are looking pretty good considering all the conditions we have been dealing with”
Over the weekend the area did see a light rain. The next chance of rain is this Friday going into Saturday.
