Mrs. Marlyn E. Sandoval, 89, of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Sunday June 4, 2023, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, Illinois.
She was born July 30, 1933, the daughter of Robert and Ivy (Atkinson) Clark in Kewanee, Illinois. She married Cornelius C. Sandoval on November 17, 1956, in Kewanee. He preceded her in death September 13, 1990.
Surviving are two sons, Rick Sandoval of Abingdon and Jose “Pepe” (and Susan) Sandoval of Knoxville, Illinois, a daughter, Maria (and Brian “Red”) Marlow of Abingdon, a brother, Bill (and Connie) Clark of Galva, Illinois, two sisters, Ella Baker of Abingdon and Karen Trulson of Galesburg, six grandchildren, Steven (and Savannah) Sandoval, Ryan Sandoval, Alex Sandoval, Augusta Hogan, Gabe Sandoval and Joe Sandoval, a great grandchild, Jettson Sandoval, and her four legged baby, Samantha. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Terry Clark, a sister, Joyce Stott, and a grandson-in-law, Matthew Hogan.
Marlyn graduated from Toulon High School and later received her nursing degree. She was a Registered Nurse at the State of Illinois Mental Health Research Hospital in Galesburg for 25 years. She later worked for the Illinois Department of Public Health for over 16 years as a surveyor and a nurse for Dr. Packard for five years. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. She enjoyed reading Native American books and collecting Native American artifacts. Besides her cat, Samantha, her favorite pet was the Siberian Husky. Most of all, Marlyn loved her family. She supported her children in every way and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting and school events. She was well known and loved by the Abingdon community and will be missed by all that knew her.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Abingdon Chapel. The Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, at the chapel. A burial will follow the service at the Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon.
