Whether it is food processing, research, or working on a farm, Illinois Farm Bureau president Rich Guebert says that one in 17 jobs in Illinois can be traced back to agriculture. Guebert shares one program he has been working on to help high school students find their place in agriculture.
“I’m working with Illinois Ag and Food Alliance, we are putting a pilot project out to local high schools, these are two or three-minute clips that show what different opportunities there are in the food and ag space. Whether it is science, mechanical related, you name it there are opportunities and they pay very well.”
Guebert adds that going to job fairs and visiting college campuses are other ways students can discover careers in agriculture.
